Formosa Variety Introduction

Formosa is a papaya variety from the Tainung F1, originating from Taiwan, China. Due to its favorable genetic traits, it has become a mainstream cultivar locally and has since been introduced to Central and South America.

Unlike the Brazilian Golden/Samba varieties more commonly found in the Hong Kong market, the Formosa papaya is significantly larger, with individual fruits typically weighing between 1.2 kg and 2 kg, and some reaching up to 3 kg. Its pulp is orange-red in color, with a firm, juicy texture, thick meat, and a sweet flavor.

Today, Song River is one of the largest producers of premium-quality Formosa papaya in Brazil, serving both the domestic and international markets, with exports to Canada and Europe.
